Driving in Spain - Summary of Requirements
(To return to website - click here)
When driving in Spain you will need to carry the following with you at all times -
Current valid passport (unless you have residence here)
Current valid driving licence - an EU card type licence is recommended
All vehicle documentation - originals or certified copies - including insurance
You will also need to carry the following inside the vehicle -
Reflective jackets - to be kept inside the vehicle where they can be put on before you get out of the vehicle (ie not in the boot). If you should break down, they must be worn at all times whilst out of the vehicle, day or night.
Two red warning triangles
A full set of spare lamps and bulbs for the vehicle, and the tools to change them
A spare pair of glasses if necessary for driving
If the vehicle is UK plated, a GB sticker will need to be displayed on the rear and headlight beams should be adjusted using stickers if necessary. You are allowed to drive a UK plated vehicle in Spain for a maximum of six months in any one year.
Finally, please remember that seat belts are compulsory in Spain, both front and rear, and the use of mobile phones whilst driving is prohibited - both are strictly enforced.
